A Radiological Dispersion Device (RDD) is also known as a “dirty bomb” or a “dirty nuke”, and if one goes off in your home town, you will want to have an emergency urban survival plan in place to protect you and your loved ones. An RDD is a form of explosive device that not only results in a deadly blast, but it is also packed with other radioactive materials that are spewed throughout the blasting radius.
Getting along with your neighbors will be a crucial element to your urban survival plan. The best scenario you can be in is to have prepared neighbors and fellow survivalist who are constantly stocking up on their food, water, and supplies. People who band together will have a much greater chance of survival. We’re a social creature and we function best when we’re with others.

It’s not uncommon in some countries for looters to be shot, either by police, army, or business owners. Despite all the scary scenarios, staying and defending your home during a crisis is probably the most reasonable course of action. Staying in the city may sound crazy but there are easy and effective solutions to counter most of the problems you’ll face. For instance, putting up a few warning signs and displaying your willingness to use force and defend your property will usually send all the looters and freeloaders on to the next house. Being able to produce your own food after SHTF will be critical to urban survival. Gardening, although taking a large amount of time, will supply you and your family with the nutrients you need after your food storage runs dry. Farming is incredibly laborious and without the right tools, will be a painstaking job to get done. Farming tools such as a wheelbarrow are force multipliers that make your job a hell of a lot of easier.
In the event of a Nuclear Attack, a properly stocked emergency urban survival kit with NBC gear plus a good understanding of nuclear weapons and their effects may be the only thing that saves your life. In these times of political uncertainty, recent events such as the 911 Attacks on New York and the bombing at the Boston Marathon are driving home the point that nuclear attacks are becoming an ever increasing possibility. There’s also the threat of North Korea and it’s unpredictable leader Kim Jong Un.
Your EDC load-out is your greatest force multiplier in your day to day life. It should contain items that extend your abilities the to the furthest in exchange for it’s size/weight. A knife and lighter as an example are perfect as together can be used to assist you in producing everything you would need in an urban survival situation. The EDC is the bare minimum of what you need to survive.
