If you live in an area like Hawaii, Alaska or Washington State, you might want to consider the importance of a well stocked emergency BOB and a solid plan in the event of a Volcanic Eruption. These massive openings on the earth’s surface can erupt at a moment’s notice and cause death and destruction to everything in their path.
If you examine the current food production situation in America, you will find that only about 1% of the population produces the food for the other 99% of the people. This is alarming since virtually the entire population does not know how to grow their own food and they have no notion about where their food is grown and produced or how it gets to their supermarket.
A great deal of American food is derived from grain or from grain fed animals. Grain is grown in a concentrated geographical area (the Midwest), and is transported to both coastal regions via only two vulnerable railroad lines. Continue reading
You never know when the next disaster may strike. Because of this you need to always be prepared for a disaster – whether it is man made or natural. One of the first things you should began preparing is a sufficient emergency food supply. During and after disasters, local stores may be out of stock of food and/or water. This can easily happen, especially if communication and transportation is severely affected due to damages from the disaster. Before any disaster such as hurricanes take place, you must have an adequate supply of food in your house.
Tsunamis can potentially occur on any shoreline of the United States, and it is therefore critical that if you live near a coastline that you prepare an emergency urban survival kit and plan in advance. There are three basic elements of survival. They are food, water, and shelter. The order of importance depends on the survival situation. You’ll have to make a quick and correct assessment of the conditions in order to decide which comes first. Naturally, if you end up in a desert, water will be the first thing on your mind. But even though water is most crucial to your body, in most other cases you’ll immediately start thinking about food first. Depending on conditions, shelter can sometimes be more important than food or water (ex; blizzard, environment with nuclear fallout). But let’s just imagine the stores shelves have been looted empty and the starving masses have cleaned out every abandoned home. This scenario has played out many times the world over. It happened in New Orleans, it’s happening in parts of Africa and it could happen in your city! What would you do? How will you feed your family?

Survival is 90% mental and 10% physical and therefore it’s essential that you understand how the mind works and its imperative you learn to use it. Think of this chapter as a users manual for your mind. First, let’s review a little background about the nature of stress. It is not a disorder that we strive to relieve or even eliminate it. Rather, it is something universal; it is what we experience as we react to the various pressures that life throws at us. Continue reading
A Radiological Dispersion Device (RDD) is also known as a “dirty bomb” or a “dirty nuke”, and if one goes off in your home town, you will want to have an emergency urban survival plan in place to protect you and your loved ones. An RDD is a form of explosive device that not only results in a deadly blast, but it is also packed with other radioactive materials that are spewed throughout the blasting radius.
Getting along with your neighbors will be a crucial element to your urban survival plan. The best scenario you can be in is to have prepared neighbors and fellow survivalist who are constantly stocking up on their food, water, and supplies. People who band together will have a much greater chance of survival. We’re a social creature and we function best when we’re with others.
In some historical instances extraordinary measures have been taken against looters during times of crisis. It’s not uncommon in some countries for looters to be shot, either by police, army, or business owners. Some governments will justify the shooting of looters with the excuse of “preventing further damage to the economy”. I want to make clear that this article is not about looting, it’s about scavenging supplies essential to survival! Continue reading
