Urban Survival Guide – How to Survive a Nuclear Blast

A nuclear weapon is one of mankind’s most dangerous weapons. A nuclear blast is characterized by an explosion on intense light, heat, a destructive wave of pressure, and an immense release of radioactive energy that can contaminate the surrounding area. A nuclear blast also releases an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) that can destroy electronic devices for miles around (1000s of miles if detonated high enough). It’s a well-known fact that hundreds of lbs. of weapons grade plutonium has been lost or sold by the Russian army and is now most likely in the hands of terrorists and rogue nations like North Korea. Many experts in the intelligence community are predicting with 99% certainty that a nuclear weapon will be used in America within our lifetimes! With the escalating tension between North Korea and the West, now is the time to prepare for a nuclear weapon being used in America!

Prepper Basics: Morse Code and the Phonetic Alphabet

Both Morse Code and the Phonetic Alphabet have been used by the military world over for almost a century now, and for good reason! Along with the many other things you as a prepper should learn and memorize, memorizing Morse Code and the Phonetic Alphabet should be on that list. Although Morse Code is no longer used in it’s traditional form, it can still be used as an unconventional method to communicate with others long or short distance using radio, lights, sound, and a variety of other methods. As for the Phonetic Alphabet, it’s primarily only used when communicating over radio/digital devices to prevent confusion between similar sounding letters. The Phonetic Alphabet is especially useful when communicating over choppy signals or when in loud environments. Several hours of studying is all it will take to memorize these codes, and it’s very likely you’ll one day need this information.

Urban Survival Guide – How to Survive an Influenza Pandemic

Aside from nuclear meltdowns occurring worldwide post TEOTWAWKI, deadly diseases and viruses spreading worldwide is arguably the next biggest danger to humanity. History is wrought with cases of deadly pandemics killing off in some cases up to 50% of a regions population. Governments are currently doing a great job at quarantining outbreaks but every so often a virus becomes pandemic and uncontrollable. If for whatever reason the system responsible for vaccinations/quarantining and viral research falls apart, the population worldwide (especially in large cities) would quickly succumb to deadly pandemics. Fortunately, there are things you can do right now to prepare for such a crisis.

Urban Survival Guide – How to Survive a Solar Flare

Solar flares are an umbrella term used in the prepper community to cover CME’s (coronal mass ejections), and solar storms. Solar flares in themselves aren’t actually that bad, even the strongest one’s ever recorded haven’t caused much damage. A CME is the thing to be worried about though, it’s basically (without getting technical) a cloud of super charged plasma that got shot out of a solar flare and was thrown out into space. A solar flare can be observed right away but a coronal mass ejection can take up to 2 days to reach earth (so we’ll have warning of it before it hits).

Urban Survival Guide – How to Survive a Drought

A drought by definition is a period of time ranging anywhere from several months to several years in which an area experiences a deficiency in its water supply. Nearly every part of the US will go through periods of reduced rainfall but droughts are increasing worldwide and becoming more common. By having a better understand of the types of damage a drought can cause, we can better prepare and make plans to counter the disaster situations created by droughts.
