Black Friday sales are bigger then ever this year (especially on Amazon.com) so we’ve decided to help y’all out by finding the survival gear with the biggest savings. Just doing a quick search I was finding knives with 50% off or more! Online and Offline, businesses will be starting the Black Friday sales earlier this year so be sure to take advantage of these great deals and get all your Christmas Shopping done now before the prices go back up! Listed below, are the top 10 products we think every family prepper would love to get for Christmas. We tried aiming for products under $50 but we’ve made a few exceptions for a few products that we think are must haves!
1. Sawyer Mini Water Filter
I’ve taken this filter on a lot of trips now and so I speak with a lot of experience when I say that you should get this filter! This filter weighs in at 2 ounces and filters up to 100 000 gallons (that’s not a typo). It filters 30 times more water then it’s competitors. Maintenance and cleaning is easy (just need to push clean water in reverse in the filter) and it’s small enough to put in your pocket. One suggestion though… get a few of the large size squeeze bags, it will make filtering a lot easier.
2. Fallkniven F1 Military Survival Knife
Fallkniven has been around for quite a while now and not much has changed to their F1 Pilot Survival Knife (because you can’t improve on perfection). It’s used by the Swedish National Defense due to it’s incredible reliability and strength. You can’t tell by the picture but this knife is very thick and is perfect for batoning fire wood. It’s not “tacticool” but it works and has an almost perfect review score on Amazon.com. I’ve used mine extensively and it’s still holding it’s edge. It’s my favorite knife by far.
3. Leatherman Squirt PS4
After much debate, we at the UrbanSurvivalNetwork have determined the Leatherman Squirt PS4 to be one of the best EDC tools out there. Unlike it’s larger counter parts, this one is extremely light and has all the most commonly used tools that a prepper type person would want (except a saw). Measuring in at 2.25 inches and weighing in at 2 ounces, this knife wont get it in the way until you need it. Another great feature of this knife is that all of the tools are accessible from the outside (while it’s closed), which makes it much faster to draw the tools.
4. Solo Stove Titan & Solo Pot 1800 Camp Stove
It’s more then a $100 but it’s totally worth it. Unlike traditional camping stoves that require fuel canisters, the Solo Stove is an efficient wood burning stove which makes it perfect as a long term survival food cooking solution. It’s been the #1 most recommended wood burning stove by many of the top survival experts. This particular model comes with a 61 fl. oz (1800 ml) pot that the stove perfectly fits into when you’re on the move. Due to it’s extreme efficiency there is very little smoke and you can use just about any combustible as fuel.
5. SOL Escape Bivvy
This isn’t just your standard space blanket. SOL has taken their line of Bivvy’s to the next level to create the “Escape Bivvy”, an ultralight and breathable bivvy made out of their own specially researched propriety material. This special material keeps all your heat in while allowing moisture to get out but not in. Unlike most bivvy’s you’ll be warm and dry while you sleep regardless of the weather. We highly recommend everyone to have one of these in their bug out bags, they’re just that good.
6. Streamlight Protac 2AA Tactical Flashlight
It may not be the brightest flashlight on the market, but it’s definitely one of the most reliable, functional, and durable flashlights out there while also using a very common (and cheap) battery (the AA). About the size of a marker and only weighing a few ounces, it makes for an excellent EDC flashlight. This particular model comes with 3 variable settings (high, strobe, and low) and at low settings this flashlight will run for a whopping 36 hours. As a gift for a prepper, this would be excellent.
7. Mountain House Classic Bucket
If you’ve never had Mountain House food, you’ve been missing out! These are hands down, the best tasting, and most convenient camping/emergency foods you can get on the market. Best of all each pack lasts up to 20+ years and will retain it’s nutrients for many many years. Regardless of whether you use them for camping or for an emergency, I think everyone should have a bucket or two of Mountain House foods stored away. Just add hot water to the pouches, let sit for about 10 minutes, and you’ll have a great warm meal ready to eat.
8. Klean Kanteen Water Bottle 64 oz.
Perfect for the outdoorsy type prepper who does a lot of hiking. It holds enough water for a good full day hike without having to worry about running out of water. The other great thing about this Klean Kanteen bottle is that it’s non insulated, meaning you can use it for boiling water, soups, hot chocolate etc. It’s also BPA free, and not coated with any weird chemicals that will gas off when heated, which is great for those who are health conscious. Definitely much more versatile then the standard plastic water bottle. I use mine all the time.
9. Goal Zero Solar Recharging Kit
Power on the go, this kit can charge a variety of devices and power up AA, or AAA batteries (4 AA’s are included). It’s about the size of a notebook but it’s incredibly efficient and can charge a cellphone up in an hour! It’s only 1.2 lbs and will easily fit into any ones BOB. I’ve used this on many occasions to charge my GPS while out on long multi-day hikes and it’s always performed beautifully, even on a cloudy day. If you’re concerned about the grid going down and being without power, you’ll definitely want one of these.
10. Mainstay Emergency Food Rations
By far the cheapest emergency food you can get per Calorie (and other nutrients). Amazingly, it also doesn’t taste that bad, it has a nice lemon flavor and has the texture of shortbread. Although you would not be able to eat this non stop for any more then a week, it’s the perfect supplement to any food storage and is the perfect food supply for a BOB since it requires zero preparation and is full of calories and other nutrients.
