Home Defense Emergency Survival Kit

When SHTF, people will get desperate! Those caught unprepared will resort to violence, brutality, and theft. We believe in charity but a line needs to be drawn when your own families survival comes at stake. To protect your family/friends from the violent hoards you’ll need to have a plan and the skills to defend your home from intruders. The gear listed below are pricey, but we feel you should never cheap out on gear when it comes to urban survival because the quality of your gear could mean the difference between life and death. Keep in mind that this kit is a work in progress and we would greatly appreciate any input you could give us. If you want to contribute to this site and the prepping community at large, offer your feedback below. Thanks!

Urban Survival Guide – How to Survive a Solar Flare

Solar flares are an umbrella term used in the prepper community to cover CME’s (coronal mass ejections), and solar storms. Solar flares in themselves aren’t actually that bad, even the strongest one’s ever recorded haven’t caused much damage. A CME is the thing to be worried about though, it’s basically (without getting technical) a cloud of super charged plasma that got shot out of a solar flare and was thrown out into space. A solar flare can be observed right away but a coronal mass ejection can take up to 2 days to reach earth (so we’ll have warning of it before it hits).

Urban Survival Guide – How to Survive a Drought

A drought by definition is a period of time ranging anywhere from several months to several years in which an area experiences a deficiency in its water supply. Nearly every part of the US will go through periods of reduced rainfall but droughts are increasing worldwide and becoming more common. By having a better understand of the types of damage a drought can cause, we can better prepare and make plans to counter the disaster situations created by droughts.

How to Survive Common Environmental Injuries

The following conditions are common medical issues that people face after a disaster. It’s important that if you want to survive these easily treatable conditions that you get at least a basic understanding of the symptoms and know how to treat them. Dealing with Common Medical Emergencies when SHTF

The first rule in any of these commonly occurring situations described is to remain calm, reassure the victim and try to keep them quiet and under control. Then examine the victim as quickly as possible, looking for the cause of the distress. Follow the rules of first aid and begin by examining the victim’s breathing and air passage but remember, the reason you need to be quick is that death might come from a bleeding artery sooner than from a blocked air passage, and you need to be open to all possibilities.

Hunting Animals in the City Post SHTF

The most important thing to know is which animals are poisonous; since there are only a small number in that group, it is easier to commit that list to memory than to try and memorize all the edible animals. Animal size is a consideration and in general, smaller animals are a much better bet than large wild game, not only because the smaller ones are easy to prepare, but also because there are more of them in the city. It is important to know the characteristics and typical behaviors of various kinds of animals. Some questions you’ll want to ask yourself when hunting are:

FEMA Search and Rescue Markings

The FEMA X code marking system has been incredibly successful since it was widely used in Hurricane Katrina. It’s been adopted by most agencies and departments across the united states so you’ll be sure to see these post disaster. Unfortunately, there is no universally accepted list of abbreviations so you’ll have to use your brain and think about what you’re seeing as it may not be immediately obvious.
