Breaking into places will be a valuable skill when SHTF. Almost everything valuable in an urban environment is either locked up or behind a locked door. When considering ways to gain access into secure areas, many people think of picking a lock as the method of choice, but the only occasion when this is truly the case is when your overriding concern is not to leave evidence at the scene. There is a whole array of techniques available; some practical methods are discussed below.
Setting a trap or snare is a good way to catch game if you have no weapons. A trap is also valuable in situations where you do have a gun or air rifle, but the sound of shooting off a weapon must be avoided. This section will focus on undomesticated wild life such as rats, mice, squirrels, chipmunks, raccoons, skunks and etc. Domesticated animals can of course be trapped but most cats and dogs will be stuck indoors. Cats can often be found outdoors and so trapping can also apply to them.
Regardless of how much food you’ve stored or how big your garden is, there’s always the possibility that you’ll have to leave your shelter and venture off into (or out of) the city. The city environment may become violent, hostile and dangerous areas and so how you get around is of utmost importance. This article will cover everything you’ll need to know when it comes to an evacuation and being a refugee.
Suppose SHTF, and the city is turning into a hell hole. It’s the disaster of the century and you happen to be stuck right in the middle it. Looting is rampant, the infrastructure has entirely collapsed and supplies are running low. You see violence picking up as people start to fight over resources. You figure there’s a way out so you find a way to safely get past the gang led roadblocks. So you steal a nice 4×4 and you siphon enough gas to make it 100 miles out of the city. This is what a survivalist calls “Bugging Out”.
With such a fragile system keeping the store shelves stocked with food, it’s absolutely paramount that you not only learn to grow you own food, but that you also learn to forage and be able to identify edible plants in and around your city. Such skills are lost to the current generation so it’s important to learn these skills before SHTF since you’ll likely be the only ones that will know how. We gotta keep this knowledge and wisdom alive!

It often happens that preppers overlook antibiotics as a part of their preps, but these wonder meds can actually turn out to be life savers. Effective and easy to use, survival antibiotics will certainly come in handy post collapse and when you’re having to deal with an infection.
